Apparently my BIOS does not have the capability to boot from USB. (only HDD. floppy and DVD. I am running on an MSI ms7309 v1 motherboard. What should I try next?

XP and Seven lovers, Cinnamon, KDE, Mate and Xfce
Win 8 lovers, Gnome, Pop’s Cosmic and Unity.
Win 10 and 11 lovers Zorin’s modified Gnome3.

Then look for a very good newbie forum. A good Distro with a forum that responds to newbies questions with RTFM doesn’t help anyone.
A great place to start for all of this is DistroWatch using it’s search function. It can limit to numbers of Distros for you by entering what you are looking for in a system.
People always want to over complicate it, and brag up their preferred Distro. Stick to basic beginner Distros. It’s really as hard people will try to convince you to keep you locked into Windows.

And too many choices on distro’s too.

I would suggest the rule of 3 and also I would suggest MX Linux as one of the three. Stable, works, and is very close to a visual someone coming from windows will appreciate.

¨Try Linux Before Installing¨
You can also go to DistroSea a try dsitros in your browser. No need to create install media or Live media just to try a distro.

¨Learn to Love the Terminal¨
In spite of what the pundits and so called experts would have us believe, one can use and enjoy Linux without ever having to use the Terminal quite easily.
