Of course there can be fake reviews, but when there are a lot of reviews and detail plus and minuses of an item you usually get a better indication of whether to buy or not. I would hope that any victims of said scams would write reviews about said items etc. and thus help make potential buyers aware of such scams. Thank you for advising of this. Its the first time I’ve read about it and will be sure to check when I buy.

Shop carefully, get what you need.

Last summer I bought a refurb HP laptop that was “business class”. It has a kensington lock, a smart card slot, and a LAN socket. That’s usually a sign of a more solid build. With 8 GB RAM, it ran Windows kinda sickly, but I immediately tried a couple Linux OSes, which all worked fine (settled on KDE Neon, for fun). It was only $125.

I learned not to buy a new HP consumer grade laptop.
